QUESTIONS
The honest answers.
Is this a compliance certificate?
No, and be wary of anyone selling one. Automated tools detect a subset of WCAG failures — the ones visible in markup and computed styles. This scan tells you, precisely, what that subset found on five pages of your store. Conformance is a claim only a human audit with assistive technology can support.
Will this stop a lawsuit?
We don't know, and nobody honest can promise that. What we can say: plaintiffs' firms run automated scanners first, so the rows in this report are the kind of thing that ends up in a demand letter. Fixing them removes measured barriers for real shoppers. That is the reason to do it.
What does the scan actually check?
axe-core 4.13 with the WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level A and AA tags — 70 rules covering names and labels, colour contrast, ARIA use, structure, target size and more. We deliberately exclude axe's "best-practice" rules, which aren't success criteria and would inflate the count.
Some failures are in the checkout. I can't edit that.
Correct — Shopify hosts and controls the checkout, and merchants below Shopify Plus can't change its markup. We label those rows "Shopify checkout" so you don't pay anyone to chase them, and so you can report them to Shopify support with the exact element and WCAG criterion.
Why not just install an overlay app?
Because an overlay changes nothing in your code. Screen readers still hit the unlabeled button; keyboard users still can't reach the size selector. The accessibility community's Overlay Fact Sheet has been signed by hundreds of practitioners for that reason, and overlays appear in lawsuits as often as they prevent them. A scan tells you what to actually fix.
Is the scan mobile or desktop?
Desktop (1280 pixels wide). Almost every WCAG rule is viewport-independent — a missing label is missing on every screen — and desktop is the standard conformance viewport. The full $49 audit covers your mobile layout separately.
My store isn't Shopify. Will this work?
Not yet. The scan itself is platform-neutral, but the theme / app / checkout attribution and the fix guidance are Shopify-specific. Other platforms are on the roadmap.
